Kathleen Aldous-Schleindl loves all things creative, whimsical, and expressive…. and that we should never underestimate the power of fun and colour…. Long live all artistic pursuits!
She graduated from Vancouver’s Emily Carr College of Art & Design with a major in Graphic Design. Her professional life has consisted primarily of book design for the publishers Penguin Books, Harcourt Brace, Scholastic and DC Heath in Toronto; and Calgary’s Fifth House/Fitzhenry and Whiteside. In addition to publishing, her freelance work has included logos, brochures and advertising. Other commercial and personal creative projects have included painting, illustration, set design, fabric art, clothes, and the hats & bags designed and produced under the Marmalade label. In addition to her own creative pursuits, she enjoys working with her own children and other students on art projects. It is always fun and rewarding to see what they come up with when given opportunities to be creative!
Currently she teaches art classes at Kensington Hughes Art Studio, and as of September, also at North Mount Pleasant Art Centre. She recently did two murals for Antyx community Arts: one in the community of Falconridge and one with the Calgary After School Program at the Southland Leisure Centre. She also designs and sells yoga mat bags at the boutique Eleven Eleven, and sketchbook bags at The Art Tree. She also had the fun job of creating the sidewalk chalk illustration of the BT hosts, which is appearing in the new promo ad for City TV’s Breakfast Television.
Kathy receives her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Emily Carr (now called University), in September. (upgrading the Emily Carr 4-yr diploma)
